It is fantastic to be able to feature another travel story from Nancy McBride. This one is very different and a really well written, thought provoking piece.

If you haven't read her previous entry from this year, AIN'T LION, then catch up with that first before reading this latest treat from Nancy called SIX MINUTES BEHIND.

Known for being "Out of the Box", Nancy tends to dive into uncharted territory—be it the outback, high-society, or shape-shifting—she "travels" there. For instance, this piece is typical of her on-going memoir conundrum of finding ways to describe what happened to her through commonly accepted, albeit restricted structures, in this case language.

Great story, Nancy! I think you traveled into the realm of your "you," the one unspoiled by human rules and fears our parents instill in us. The "you" that we all are before the consciousness of reality gets the best of us.

This experience was a privilege. Other life traumas have assisted my "self" to surface even more and "know" what do to from the complex to the simple. Relief.

Fascinating! Can one really be struck by lightening through a telephone, excuse me, I'm not technical in any way. Or, is this pure fiction?

Pure non-fiction. The grounding wire was apparently not attached, and a massive bolt of lighting was drawn to the telephone wire, and grounded through me ear and shoulder into a radiator I was leaning on, fortunately. If my feet had been nearest the radiator, I'd really be toast! Just a bunch of circumstances!

Makes me ruminate which is a good thing, and needs no end point. Thanks Nancy, strangely I feel very comfortable with this story. In some lifetime or other we were clearly separated at birth. :D Funny, but I was thinking today that there is actually no such thing as the present, just a constant translation of the future into the past. The consciousness of time of course is a fluid thing but I suspect time itself is as well. Anyway, not so important where we go as where we go with it. cheers

Wow! Now that's a travel story with a difference. I can see how you feel privileged, having experienced -- albeit briefly -- what is beyond, and how this has had a stabilizing effect on you and your outlook on life.
