Day 10 - golf tournament at Fanling

Fred has a fascinating day as he attends an international golf tournament at the course in Fanling.

"It was really interesting going round with the players as the crowd was not too large."

Day 9 - working as a film extra

On the coldest day of his trip so far, Fred has a great time with some fellow-travellers on a film set for Chinese television.

"I was dressed as a 'bus-boy' in a bright blue uniform."

Day 8 - exploring the Hong Kong countryside

As Fred enters his second week in Hong Kong, he visits Clearwater Bay, explores the countryside and gets offered work as a film extra.

"Enjoyed being out in the country and so isolated after the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong itself."

Day 7 - a very lazy day

After the first six days of excitement Fred has a very lazy day.

"Saw the guy getting a live fish out of the tank and weighing it on an old set of scales."

Day 6 - venturing out to the New Terriories

Today sees Fred venturing out to the New Territories, using local buses to see many different sights.

"In all the time was there I didn't see another Westerner and was the subject of a lot of strange looks."

Day 5 - Fred goes job hunting

Today Fred goes in search of a job at a branch of the bank that he had worked in whilst living in Frankfurt.

"Weather prospects sound good, cloudy, warm & humid (94 per cent humidity) with sun this afternoon, 24 C."

Day 4 - visit to Stanley and a ride on the Peak Tram

On his fourth day in Hong Kong, Fred travels out to Stanley, rides on the Peak Tram and visits the Poor Man's Nightclub.

"Hong Kong is incredibly compacted and every available piece of land is being used for new skyscrapers."

Day 3 - exploring central Hong Kong

The third day of Fred's trip finds him exploring the central area of Hong Kong.

"I have never seen so many people crammed into such small areas."

Day 2 - Fred arrives in Hong Kong

The second day of Fred's Diary follows him as he arrives in Hong Kong and starts to get used to a very different culture.

"I was soon outside and got my first taste of the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong".
