Anyone who wrote a diary as an older child or young adult should enjoy this book. The style of writing is a warts and all journal of a fascinating journey. I almost felt as though I was being a bit nosey as I read Fred's Diary and I certainly felt a little envious that the author had the chance to travel so extensively through Asia as a young man and experience those wonderful countries as a traveller rather than a tourist. The book is very descriptive and I learnt a lot about places I have never been to as well as a fair amount about places that I have visited. Happily for me, a Thai prison is not one of those places!
