Ronald Mackay spent decades in Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada, bringing an abandoned farm back into production. He remembers these days with affection and lingering surprise.
Ronald writes about his experiences in parts of the world where he has lived and worked. “Fortunate Isle, A Memoir of Tenerife” and “The Kilt Behind the Curtain” tell about life in the Canary Islands and Romania, respectively, in the 1960s. His “Windows On My Worlds” is a broader collection of short stories that take place in countries ranging from Scotland to Argentina.
In July 2026 Ronald was honoured with the status of “Adoptive Son” by the Municipality of Buenavista del Norte, Tenerife. The act recognises his seven-decade long love affair with the village as well his nostalgic stories and photographs of the people and the period.
